The many places of interest in the surrounding countryside make it an attractive destination for those who seek a relaxing holiday in untouched nature.Tisno is the last settlement to be established on the island of Murter and lies at the narrowest point of the channel separating it from the mainland, where island and mainland almost touch. Hence the name: "Tisno" means "narrow". The first record of the settlement dates from 1474. During the French rule (1806 – 1813) the town was the centre of local government. The bridge was built at the beginning of the 18th century. From this time on the settlement expanded on to the mainland.There are many well known national parks in the countryside surrounding Tisno. From Paklenica National Park, the Kornati Islands, the Plitvicer Lakes and the Krka Waterfalls.
